Jeffrey Scott Manning (1965- 2015)

Jeffrey (Jeff) Scott Manning, a United States veteran and resident of Woodbine, MD passed away peacefully at the age of 49 on November 4, 2015 following a two year war against a Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumor. His wife of 31 years, Deborah Lynn Manning (nee Milam) was beside him at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Columbia, MD.

Jeff was born in East Point, Georgia to Frank E. and Sylvia A. Manning (nee Vaughan) on November 11, 1965. He joined the United States Navy in 1983 and proudly served as an enlisted sailor. In 1986 he was selected for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program through which he attended Auburn University. Jeff graduated from Auburn in 1989 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign. He went on to serve with pride aboard the USS Archerfish, the USS West Virginia, the USS Maryland, and the USS Santa Fe before retiring as a Navy Commander in 2009. Upon his retirement, Jeff joined the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory where he worked as a KBS group supervisor, and Branch Systems Engineer. Having a lifelong love of learning, Jeff earned masters degrees from Johns Hopkins University in Electrical Engineering and Systems Engineering. Jeff loved to travel and visited the UK, Japan, Spain, Israel, Australia, Italy, Morocco, Canada, and Singapore. His other great loves were his family, his pets, music, astronomy, and baseball. He will be remembered for his integrity, enthusiasm, and can-do spirit.

He is survived by his wife Deborah and their two sons Ryan Manning and Jack Manning of Woodbine, MD., his grandmother, Mary (Mimi) Vaughan, and his parents Frank and Annette Manning of Dawsonville, GA., his in-laws Nancy & Nathaniel Oates of Covington, GA and Paul & Dianne Milam of Naperville, IL. He leaves behind his sister Jennifer (Jon) Spangler of Dacula, GA., his sisters-in-law Amber (Dave) Pekel of Chicago, IL. and Kelly (Ryan) Cavanaugh of Elmhurst, IL., four nieces and two nephews.

There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Monday 21, 2016 at Arlington National Cemetery. Those attending should meet at the Administration Building at the cemetery by 12:30 p.m. Jeff's memory can be honored through donations made to the American Brain Tumor Association (abta.org).
