Jeanne Dorothy Wantz Barkman, 66, of Thurmont, MD, died Monday, October 12, 2015 at her home, with her family by her side, after a two year battle with colon cancer.

Born January 19, 1949 in Gettysburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold Lewis Wantz, Sr. and Evelyn Mae Schwitters Wantz.  Jeanne graduated from Thurmont High School in 1967.  In 2006, she graduated from Ashworth College with a Degree of Associate of Science in Health Care Management.

Jeanne was a former employee, but not limited to, USAMRIID of Fort Detrick as a Clinical Data Manager, MedImmune, Otsuka Pharmaceutical, Montgomery Ward and C&P as a switch board operator.

She was a current member of Post 7 Amvets Ladies Auxiliary, Thurmont Lions Club and a member of The Intersection Church of Gettysburg. She was a former member of Post 168 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Red Hat Society.

Jeanne enjoyed spending time with family, traveling through all fifty states, going to the beach, visiting lighthouses and crocheting.

Surviving are son, Robert Wayne Haugh, II, of Sykesville; daughter, Deanna Dorothy Haugh Houck and husband, Marc, of Sabillasville; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Renee Houck Hurtt and husband, Joshua, of Thurmont; and grandson, Dakota Robert Houck of Sabillasville; a special second family Sandra Dawn, daughter, and husband, Tim; grandson, Logan Francis Copenhaver of Rocky Ridge; brothers, John L. Wantz and Marie Messner and Harold L. Wantz, Jr. and wife, Cindy, all of Thurmont; and an aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews including many others that have become part of her family that were extra dear to her heart; and two very special angels that meant so much to her.

She was predeceased by sister-in-law, Wanda Hemler Wantz.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 19th at The Intersection Church in Gettysburg, PA with Pastor Jeremiah Herbert officiating.  Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.
