Jean Gerhardt Whittaker

Jean Gerhardt Whittaker was born on October 9, 1936, in New London, Conn.  A graduate of the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital’s Nursing Program, she was a dedicated private practice nurse, Hospice nurse - and a mentor to many. 

She married the love of her life and best friend Paul “Bud” Whittaker in 1960. They had two wonderful children Gail Whittaker Lewis (Scott) and Jim Whittaker (Stephanie); four grandchildren, Kevin Lewis (Caitlyn), Erica Stevenson (Ben), Ava Whittaker, and Daniel Whittaker; and one great-grandchild Jacob Lewis.

Jean's favorite activity was to create memories with her family and friends, which she captured through her natural photography talent. She loved to have fun with everyone and lived the concept of “don’t take life too seriously.” She was an important part of many people’s lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Ruth (Murray) Gerhardt, her husband Paul, and her brothers William B. and Donald E. Whittaker. She joined her husband on Monday, April 24, 2023.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Melina Andrews - a former Hospice co-worker - who was a blessing during Jean’s final days.
