Jean Hanes
January 8, 1936 — June 17, 2010
Jean Delores Hanes, 74, of Sharpsburg, Maryland went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital. She had been lovingly taken care of at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro since December 17, 2008.
Born on January 8, 1936, in Dargan, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Grace N. (Myers) Knight.
Her husband of 29 years, Benton M. Hanes, preceded her in death in June 1982.
Jean was a 1953 graduate of Boonsboro High School.
She was a lifetime member of the Samples Manor Church of God in Sharpsburg where she was known for her love of music and the leader of song.
She was employed for many years at McCrory's Department Store in downtown Hagerstown and at Hanover Shoe Company in Middletown, Maryland. She also worked at the Potomac Supermarket and at the Food Lion in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Jeff Hanes and his wife Robin of Sharpsburg, Maryland; her two granddaughters, Patty and her husband Shawn Kelly and Becky and her husband Scott Campbell, all of Sharpsburg; her great-granddaughter Emily Kelly and her great-grandson Dawson Kelly, also of Sharpsburg; her brother Floris Knight and his wife Joan of Fairplay, Maryland; her sister, Doris and her husband Delano Wilson of Palm Coast, Florida; and her many nieces and nephews. Jean will also be missed by her two special friends, Phylis Kline and Teresa Massie, as well as all of the other girls at Reeders Memorial Home.
A Funeral Ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Samples Manor Church of God on Harpers Ferry Road in Sharpsburg, Maryland. Rev. Kenneth W. Johnson will officiate with special music offered by Rev. Richard Fox. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Viewing will also take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
