Jean Elizabeth Grant, 92 of Cambridge Maryland, surrounded by her family went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 15, 2024. Born on June 6, 1932 in Thurmont Maryland, Jean resided there until moving to Cambridge MD 4 years ago.
She was the daughter of the late Robert Asper Wachter Sr and Mildred Irene Keeney Wachter. Jean met and married the love of her life, the late George Edward Grant, who preceded her in death in 1983. Jean's proudest moments in life were the Lord, her family and the joy of babysitting her great-grandchildren the last 4 years. Jean loved the Lord and Savior and enjoyed sharing that love with her family, friends, and everyone she met. Jean attended the Lewistown United Methodist Church since age 16 and was a life member for over 76 years. Later in years when she was not able to attend church in person, you would find her watching online the Lewistown United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Claiborne and the Riverside Wesleyan Church on Hoopers Island. When she was able to, Jean loved to go to the Riverside Wesleyan Church with all her family and enjoyed Pastor Chuck Hudson and son Pastor Ryan Hudson, which Jean loved to hear them sing. Jean loved Angels and you would see them all over her home, no matter where home was located.
Jean worked at Woolco in Frederick, Maryland for over 20 years, then right before her husband's death, he got her a job with the Federal Government so they could be together all day. Jean loved to judge baked goods alongside her sister and best friend, Ruth Lenhart. Together, they judged all the community shows, state and county fairs where they were written up in the Frederick News Post honoring all their years of service and dedication. They also worked together for many years as Chief Judges for Frederick County, they patted oysters together for the Lewistown Volunteer Fire Company, where they were both made life members for all their years of service. You would always find Jean working with the ladies at the Lewistown United Methodist Church in their kitchen serving different meals, Pot Pie dinners, and serving refreshments every Sunday after church. Jean loved her church family and truly missed all her friends after moving to Cambridge. When she was able to attend, her daughter Roxanne made sure to take Jean to church, Rainbow Bells, doctor's appointments or just go up for the day to visit her family and friends in Frederick. Jean only went through the 8th grade of school when her grandparents, uncle, and mother were all in a serious automobile accident. Three of the family members were deceased and her mother seriously injured, so Jean had to quit school to help raise her 5 siblings. Jean loved to cook, which she had to learn at a young age.
Surviving are her two daughters; Roxanne Grant of Cambridge and Tina Yinger and husband Richard of Hoopers Island. Two grandchildren; Justin Yinger and wife Trish of Hoopers Island and Cody Yinger and wife Shelby of Cambridge. Four Great-grandchildren whom she loved so deeply; Makenzie Yinger, Sadie Yinger, Josie Yinger and Aubrey Yinger.
