Jean Couillard

February 11, 1934 — September 21, 2017

Jean Rider Couillard, 83, of Damascus MD, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 21, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James (Jim) Profilet Couillard.  Jean dedicated her life to her family with her unconditional love.

Jean was born on February 11, 1934 to the late Harry Andrew and Edna Marie Rider of Linthicum Heights, Maryland.  After graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1952, Jean met and married Jim, a United States Naval Academy (USNA) graduate, from Natchez, Mississippi, in June 1954.   Jean was a gifted artist and particularly loved china painting.  She also enjoyed playing bridge, doing needlework, watching her grandchildren’s sports’ activities and musical performances, and attending the USNA football games with her lifelong Navy friends and family members.

Jean is survived by her four children and their spouses, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, including her son, Steven and his wife, Judy, and their children, Bradley (fiance, Heather) and Billy (wife, Anna); her son, Kevin, and wife, Karen, and their children, Andrew and Melanie; her son, Gregg, and wife, Wendy, and their children, Kyle (wife, Whitney, and daughter, Ella), Ryan (wife, Kathleen, and son, Liam), and Nathan; and her daughter, Melissa, and husband, Neil, and children, Allison and Samuel;  and sister-in-law, Senith Tipton, and husband, Ancel.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Ijamsville, MD.  A luncheon in the church’s social hall will immediately follow the service.  Interment will be at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Jean’s favorite charities, Children’s National Medical Center, 111 Michigan Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20010 or  https://childrensnational.org/giving.
