Mrs. Jean “Jeannie” Maxine Class, 79 of Frederick passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2012.
Born April 4, 1932 in Frederick, MD she was the daughter of the late Austin Gordon Shuff and Paupa Gue Shuff Weddle and the step daughter of the late Robert E. Weddle, Sr.
Jeannie graduated from Frederick High School in 1950 and then attended Hagerstown Business College. She worked locally and in Schenectady, NY as a secretary and administrative assistant. After moving to Orlando, FL in 1957, she worked for Martin Orlando as an advertising editor and art simulator. Job related travel had her living in Seattle, Washington, Detroit, Michigan and Redondo Beach, California. upon her return to Frederick , she worked at Fort Detrick and later opened a daycare center until her retirement in 1998. Jeannie then worked in a local NASCAR store.
A vocalist in high school, Jeannie sang with the Dick Betson Trio locally for several years. While living in California, she worked with the Danny D’Amore Quartet, a well-known casino band from Caesar’s palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1975, Jeannie and two of her brothers, Bobby and Buddy started a country band known as Jeannie C. and the Country Caravan. A popular band over the tri-state area, they played on shows with some of the biggest names in country music. They cut several albums and performed at the Inaugural Reception for President Jimmy Carter.
Jeannie was an avid reader, she loved to travel, attend Broadway shows and NASCAR racing events. She also enjoyed documentaries, biographies, true life movies and almost all sports on TV. Jeannie loved animals especially her dog Cricket.
She is survived by her son, Aaron P. Class and wife Donna, her longtime companion, Dale Higgs, granddaughter, Emma Paupa Class, brother, Charles (Buddy) Weddle and wife Ruth, nieces Catherine Thomas and husband Carl, Gina Lidie and husband Tom, Melanie Burns, Jennifer Weddle and Melissa Sullivan and husband Eric, and several grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Frederick P. Class, Jr. and her two brothers, Robert E. Weddle, Jr. and Daryll W. Weddle.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, February 25th from 6:00-9:00PM.
