Janis Sclar

November 4, 1930 — January 17, 2018

Janis Schneider Sclar, of Frederick, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Abraham Sclar, to whom she was married for 49 years.  Janis had been a resident at Homewood at Crumland Farms for the last six years.
She was born in Baltimore, MD, to Freda and Jacob Schneider.  Janis and her now deceased brother, Stanford, were raised by their mother and a loving extended family, after the sudden and untimely death of their father when she was only three years old.  It was while growing up in Baltimore that she became good friends with Sylvia Brandorff.  That friendship blossomed as they married brothers (Abe and Reuben) and as sisters-in-law moved to Frederick.  For many years, the two couples worked side by side, along with Abe’s sister, Rebecca, and her husband, Barney Kandel, at their business Reliable Junk Company (now Reliable Recycling).  Janis and Abe were longtime and devoted members of Beth Sholom Congregation.
Janis is survived by her beloved sons, Jack (Lynne), Brian (Bobbie), and David (Sally); grandchildren, Kathryn (AJ) Szabo, Julia Sclar (fiancé Brett Maceikis) ,Eric Sclar, Sara Sclar, Rachel Johnson, Daniel Sclar and Steven (Gloria) Sclar; great grandchildren, Vivienne Szabo, Mira Szabo, and William Furie Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Sclar and Sylvia Schneider and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens,  9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (Route 15), at 2:00 pm. Please  omit flowers.  Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Frederick, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.
