Janet Imogene (Swain) Shumaker, 87, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away on October 17, 2015 at Mertitus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland
Born on October 10, 1928 in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Garrott and Margaret (Jones) Swain. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert William Shumaker in 1997.
She graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1947 and spent most of her life taking care of her family.
Janet enjoyed being with her family, shopping and in her down time, watching game shows on TV.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ at Hagerstown.
Janet is survived by her loving daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Lewis and her husband Dale, Deborah "Debbie" Wentzell, Robin Wilson and her husband Dwaine, and Lori Smith and her husband Mark all of Boonsboro; her one sister, Louise Mullendore of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert Swain also of Hagerstown; Nine grandchildren and Fourteen great-grandchildren with another great-granddaughter arriving in January.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her cherished puppy Precious.
A graveside service will be held for family members and friends at the Boonsboro Cemetery on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Mike Foster will be officiating.
