Janet Campbell

d. April 13, 2015

Janet Gay Campbell, 73, of Thurmont, died Monday, April 13. She was a lover of good books, Frank Sinatra, beach vacations, beagles and chaotic and sprawling family dinners and reunions.

Janet was much admired for her hearty Italian cuisine and apple pies, but mostly for her singular devotion to family.

Predeceased by husband James D. Campbell in 1991, and grandson Christopher Williams-Campbell in 1987, Janet is survived by her children Katherine Heerbrandt, Greg Campbell, Mark Campbell and Christina Campbell-Westmont; grandchildren Ryan Heerbrandt, Sarah Harbaugh, Jordan Heerbrandt, Michael Campbell, Katie Campbell, Tyler Campbell, Alexandra Campbell, Sam Westmont, Elizabeth Westmont, and Olivia Campbell; and great-grandchildren Jayden Harbaugh, Reese Sweeney, Jeremiah Harbaugh, Alexis Campbell, Charlotte (Charlie) Sweeney and Maya Ramirez-Heerbrandt.

Janet also leaves behind her sister Vikki Williamson, brother Garry Barrett, and uncle John Stillson, along with son and daughters in-law, and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Her primary joy was presiding over dinner tables and family functions, and being in the center of family life.

Janet, born near Kittanning, PA in 1941, spent most of her adult years supporting and caring for her family, but worked as a travel agent and typing teacher, and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, and softball and cheerleading coach. She served as Vice President of the Thurmont Little League and was a member of the PTA, book clubs, and the Thurmont Jaycees.

Everyone was welcome in her home and felt blessed when they left it. Janet leaves a legacy of unconditional love, a fighting spirit and a host of loving memories.

Funeral services for Janet will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Eyler’s Valley Chapel, 7504 Hampton Valley Road, Emmitsburg, MD.

Visitation will be from 2 – 4 p.m., and from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD.
