Janet Axline Boaze, of Rosemont, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025. She was born April 13, 1945 to the late Samuel David and Marguerite Carey Axline of Knoxville. She had an idyllic childhood in New Addition and held many fond memories from those years, surrounded by her siblings, grandparents, cousins and friends.
She was a proud graduate of Brunswick High School Class of 1963 and was an active member of the BHS Alumni Association for many years along with her best friend for life, Karen Cornelius. Janet was married to her high school sweetheart who she met when she was paired with him as a dance partner during high school gym class. She and Raleigh (d. 2018) were married for 54 years and enjoyed dancing to their “old time Rock n Roll” through the years. Together they checked off Janet’s bucket list items which included parasailing, a Nascar ride-along, zip lining, flying in an open bi-plane over the beach and hot air ballooning.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brunswick and also attended Brownsville Church of the Brethren and Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in recent years. Before and after raising her daughter she worked as a bookkeeper including 30 years at Builder’s First Source in Frederick. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, was an active volunteer in the schools, a tremendous cook and was always lending a helping hand to friends and neighbors by giving rides or showing up with a meal or baked treat. She was proud of her family and loved them whole heartedly. Her greatest joys were being a Mom and Grandma. She never missed an opportunity to be with her family. She fully embraced whatever activity her grandchildren were interested in and was known to engage in leaf pile jumping, dress up parades, playground fun, water gun battles and any other playtime. She was always present and cheering them on at dance recitals, basketball games, races and school programs. She enjoyed her granddaughter’s shared interest in baking and was proud of her grandson’s accomplishments in scouting.
Janet is survived by her shopping partner, friend and daughter, Jodi and son-in-law, Dan Murphy, and grandchildren, Paige and Owen Murphy, all of Hagerstown; beloved siblings, John Axline and wife, Delores, of Knoxville, and Joan Brown and husband, Gene, of Frederick; and nephews, a niece; and several cousins. She is also remembered by lifelong friends and caring neighbors from Rosemont Drive.
The family will honor Janet’s wishes and will celebrate her life privately, without holding a public service or gathering.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Rd., Knoxville MD 21758.
