Jane M. Junkins

Mrs. Jane M. Junkins, 86, of Mt. Airy died on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Glade Valley Center, Walkersville. She was the wife of the late Dr. John H. Junkins who died in 1998.

Born on March 14, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry and Emma Frosch Tomlinson.

She was the office manager for her husband's Optometry Office in Upper Marlboro. Mrs. Junkins was a member of St. Michaels' Catholic Church and a member of its Pastoral Visitors; in addition to visiting Pleasant View Nursing Home, she spent most of her Sunday afternoons writing cards and letters to shut-ins. As a result of her efforts in the area, on October 23, 2005, she was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Baltimore Archdiocese.

Jane enjoyed reading and was an avid dog lover, having many over her lifetime

Surviving are 2 children: Linda A. Junkins of Mt. Airy and John M. Junkins and wife Vicki of Frederick; 3 grandchildren: Patrick Via and wife Elisa of Brunswick, Edward Via and wife Laurie of Rockville and Catrenia Henry and husband James of Frederick; 7 great grandchildren: Jake, Joshua, Jon, Samantha, Christina, Grace and Zack.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, April 30, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd. in Mt. Airy.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael's Rd., Mt. Airy with Rev. Michael J. Ruane and Rev. Richard Maloney as Co-Celebrants.

Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
