Jane Shifler

March 28, 1931 — October 13, 2014

Jane Louise (Haynes) Shifler passed away at her home in Boonsboro after a long illness. She was a housewife who continuously supported her husband Woodrow as a farmer for over 50 years. They had recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on September 29. One of her loves was collecting and displaying angels in her home; she was surrounded by many angels when she passed away.

Born on March 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late H. Alan and Louise Haynes of Hagerstown, Md. She was a graduate of the 1950 class of Hagerstown High School.

She was preceded in death by her brother, R. Meredith Haynes of Quincy, Pa., and her daughter-in-law, Margaret (Pond) Shifler of Boonsboro.

She was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Woodrow Shifler; her sons, David Shifler and his wife Bonnie of Boonsboro, and Ronald Shifler and his wife Bette Jo of Beaver Creek; and her sister-in-law Catherine Haynes of Quincy, Pa.

She is also survived by her grandchildren; Dennis Shifler and wife Melissa of Dillsburg, Pa., Michelle Witmer and husband Mark of Dillsburg, Pa., Elizabeth Wolfensberger and husband John of Greencastle, Pa., Rebecca Powell of Lakewood, Co., Andrew Shifler of Boonsboro, Hannah Leatherman and husband Michael of Hagerstown, and Holly Leatherman and husband Jeremy of Hagerstown.

She is survived by nieces Carol Ann Haynes of Hagerstown, Linda (Haynes) Sokol and her husband Mike of Hagerstown, nephew Meredith Haynes and wife Debbie of Cincinnati, Oh., nieces Judy Jackson and husband Dennis of Leesburg, Va., and Dawn Dillard and her husband Benson of Hagerstown.

She is also survived by five great grandchildren; Melena Powell of Lakewood, Co., Alexandra (AJ) and Matthew Wolfensberger of Greencastle, Pa., and Ava and Sierra Leatherman of Hagerstown.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. John H. Dean will officiate. Burial will be at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorial donations in her name be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Md., 21742 .
