Jan (Jacobson) Wetterer, 81, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2014 at her home.
Born on July 15, 1932, in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Myrta J. (Dobbs) Jacobson.
She was of the Protestant faith.
Jan attended Flushing High School in Flushing, New York. After graduation, she attended Hunter College in New York City.
She was a homemaker for many years. After her children were raised, Jan became a teachers aide for the deaf at schools in the D.C. area and at the latter part of her career was an administrative assistant at Trinity College in D.C. She also became a certified graphologist.
Jan was an avid animal lover and spent her time helping all animals in need.
Jan and her husband, Ernie, moved to the Sharpsburg area in 1987. From that time on, Jan became very active in many clubs and organizations such as: being the editor of the Sharpsburg Town Crier for twenty years, a member and past president of the Boonsboro Historical Society, a member of the Sharpsburg Historical Society, and was part of the Antietam National Battlefield Advisory Committee. She was a past member of the Washington County Zoning and Appeals Board.
Jan is survived by her husband, Ernest Wetterer, whom she married on August 30, 1951; her daughter, Lynn DiCarlo and her husband, John, Jr. of Keedysville, Maryland; her son, Thomas Wetterer of Washington D.C. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Daniel Wetterer, Jr., Erin Dixon, Laura Oates, and Sarah Baker; and six great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Isabella, Adam, Ryan, Evan, and Levi.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Wetterer, Sr.; and her brother, Walter Jacobson.
A memorial service in Jan's memory will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Richard Hembrock will officiate.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family will accept memorial donations at the memorial service for a local cat rescue.
