James W. {Jim} Johnson, Sr.

Mr. James W. Jim Johnson, Sr, 86, of Thurmont, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Frederick Memorial Hospital . He is survived by his wife of 62 years Ruth H. ( Rice ) Johnson.

Born on August 5, 1921 in Montgomery County, MD he was the son of the late Oscar P. Johnson and Edna M. ( Eikner ) Johnson Dixon .

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Edgewood Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during W W II receiving numerous awards including two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion, Thurmont, enjoyed playing Bingo and was an avid gardener and hunter.

Surviving beside his wife are two daughters; Debora L. Tavernie and husband Dale of Thurmont, Patricia A. . Harding of Frederick, one son James W. Johnson, Jr. Of Thurmont, grandchildren; Melissa L. Worth and husband Harp of Sabillasville, Paul E. Wiles, Jr. Of Hagerstown, Heather N. Condon and fiance Brad Sparkman, of Sabillasville, Crystal D. Rowe of Thurmont, Phillip L. Mercer and fiance Jane Baker of Mt. Pleasant, Robert J. Harding of Frederick, Thomas E. Harding II, of Frederick, Crystal D. Grimes and husband Kenny of Thurmont, Dawn Johnson of Thurmont, Keith Johnson of Baltimore, Lisa Shaffer and husband Steve of PA, Vickie Fox and husband Herbie of the MD Eastern Shore and James W. Johnson, III of PA. 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren. He will be missed by his beloved dog Frisky .

Visitation: Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, May 23rd, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. With Rev. Joe Burdette officiating.
Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Wiles, Jr.,
Robert Harding, Tom Harding, Phillip Mercer, Mark Deyton, James Johnson, III.
