Mr. James S. Shriver, 91, formerly of 6 East D Street, Brunswick went peacefully home to be with his Lord at 1:45 PM on Friday, November 9, 2007 at Faith Assisted Living, Brunswick.
Born on May 25, 1916, in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Maude L. Harper Shriver. Mr. Shriver deeply loved his Lord, his family and many friends.
He was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Brunswick where he served as deacon and Bible teacher for many years.
He retired from the B&O Railroad in 1956 at the age of 65 in order to have more time to devote to serving his Lord. During his retirement years he visited in many homes sharing the love of Christ; provided transportation for many always spreading much joy with his wonderful sense of humor. He taught men's Bible study for 29 years at the Frederick County Detention Center, leading many to a personal knowledge of Christ. He was also an active member or the West Virginia Emmanus Community, and served on many weekend retreats.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Freda Gaither Shriver, who has resided at Homewood Nursing Home for the past three months; 3 daughters: Nancy S. Virts, wife of the late Gary Virts of Brunswick, Janet S. Johnston and husband Frank of Chambersburg, PA and Katherine Shriver and husband Frederick Gang of Winchester, VA; 3 grandchildren: Chris Chevalier of Hagerstown, Susan Miller of Jefferson and James Johnston of Chambersburg: 4 great-grandchildren: Matthew and Kathryn Miller of Jefferson and Daniel and Joshua Chevalier of Hagerstown.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3-8 PM on Monday, November 12, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick.
Services:
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 13, Faith Baptist Church, 2212 Jefferson Pike, Knoxville with Rev. Edward Jordan officiating.
Interment take place in Lovettsville Union Cemetery with Mike Eshbaugh, Brian Strite, Dan Holsinger, Kevin Fouche, Robert Wilt and Phil Lowery serving as active pallbearers, and Bret Sigler as Honorary Bearer.
