James Rowland Young, 84 of Walkersville, MD passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at his home. He was the husband of Norma Young. They were married for 54 years.
Born July 12, 1924 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas he was the son of the late Raymond O. Young and Maudie Howard Trundle.
Mr. Young served as a US Marine where he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was also a member of the US Marine Corp League and he received the Purple Heart, Sharpshooter and Pistol Marksman medals.
He was recognized in the National Veterans Archives and was in the Ken Burns movie called The War.
He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Woodsboro. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Linganore Rifle Range where he also served as president. He was an instructor on hunter safety courses.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, making hunting knives, teaching trout fishing and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Norma he is survived by a daughter, Michele Young Zittle and husband Douglas of Thurmont, two sons, Lance Young of Thurmont and Brian Young of Woodsboro, six grandchildren, James Young, Kristen Zittle, Katie Young, Chelsea Young, Jena Zittle and David Young, and an aunt, Cleo Howard of Arkansas.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville on Tuesday, November 25 from 7:00-9:00 PM.
Services:
Funeral services will be private.
Interment will be private in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
