James Richard Valentine

James Richard Valentine, 92, of Emmitsburg, MD passed away October 4, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Harbaugh) Valentine for 70 years.
Born May 25, 1924 in Emmitsburg, MD, he was the youngest son of the late Emory E. and Annie (Moser) Valentine.
Richard was a member of the Toms Creek United Methodist Church family. He lived, loved and worked on the family farm all of his life. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher winning numerous competitions and enjoying local fame. In addition, he loved to bowl and was a member of bowling leagues in Emmitsburg and Taneytown for most of his life. Richard enjoyed going to local sales to buy farm equipment, and spent many days in search of his next great purchase. He leaves behind a time capsule of his legacy and passion on the farm that he loved.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is one son, Dennis R. Valentine; granddaughter Christy R. Turner of Charles Town, WV; two great-grandsons Christian A. Turner and William R. Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary W. Valentine, his siblings and parents.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Tom's Creek United Methodist Church, Emmitsburg.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, 10926 Simmons Rd, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
