James {Jim} Henry Barfield

Mr. James (Jim) Henry Barfield, 80, of Frederick (formerly of Smyrna, Georgia), came to peace on September 1, 2009 after a brief illness.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dawn E. Barfield. Mr. & Mrs. Barfield celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 19th of this year.

Born April 19, 1929, he was the son of the late Eugene F. and Athalea N. Barfield of Reynolds, Georgia.

Jim's early childhood was spent as a carefree boy, in Philadelphia, who loved to go to the Y. He moved with his family back to Reynolds to farm and later joined the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict where he served on the USS Sierra. He received his associate's degree from Georgia Southern College. During his life, Jim held positions in sales and in paint contracting. He retired from the Georgia Institute of Technology Facilities Plant and then moved to Frederick where he spent his retirement years near his family. Mrs. Barfield continues to reside at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehab Center. Mr. Barfield was a member of the American Legion Post #11.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his stepdaughter Dawn Wyndell Duggan, son-in-law Daniel J. Duggan and grandson James D. Duggan. Numerous relatives reside in Georgia, Maryland and Virginia. He will also be remembered by special friend, Shirene Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Tommy and Harvey.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, September 3, from 7 - 9:00 p.m

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 4, at 10:30 a.m.
Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
