James "Jim" Welty

October 22, 1927 — April 3, 2016

Mr. James M. Welty, 88, of Knoxville, died peacefully Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Bonnie E. Welty, who predeceased him on May 16, 2015.

Born October 22, 1927 in Keyser, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Welty and Mabel V. (Morrison) Welty.

He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served his country during World War II. He later retired as a conductor for CSX Railroad after 43 years.

Mr. Welty was a member of the Masonic Lodge #191 Brunswick, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter of Frederick; a life member of Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department, and the United Transportation Union. Additionally, he was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Eagles Club, all in Brunswick. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening, and was especially proud of his tomatoes.

He is survived by his daughter, Karin Lind and husband, Robert, of Woodsboro; and a son, Keith Welty of Knoxville; a brother, Roger Welty of North Carolina; a sister, June Rowan of South Carolina; five grandchildren, Ryan Reynolds, Emily Reynolds, James Lind, Keria Gibson, and Samantha Whiting; and 6 great-grandchildren, Hayden and Haley Reynolds, Rylee and Rowan Nelson, Taylor Gibson, and Aidan Whiting.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two daughters-in-law, Deborah Welty and Linda Welty; a brother, Joseph A. Welty, Jr.; and three sisters, Anna Hurley, Ella Rhea Kridler, and Ivalee Fisher.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April  7, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, where a Masonic service will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by an Eastern Star service.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 8 at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, 12 South Church Street, Middletown, with the Rev. Mark Wakefield officiating.

Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
