James "Jim" A. Thomas, 81, a resident of Homewood at Williamsport in Williamsport, Maryland and formerly of Westminster, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
Born on October 16, 1930, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Rhea (Cable) Thomas. Jim was preceded in death by two wives, Mary Lou Thomas and Barbara H. Maynes.
He was a 1949 graduate of Boswell High School in Boswell, Pennsylvania. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Jim went to the University of Miami where he received a B.S. in Mathematics.
Jim worked for more than thirty years as a mathematician for the National Security Administration.
He is survived by a son-in-law, John Veasey; two brothers, Walter G. Thomas and his wife JoAnn of Keedysville, Maryland and Lee Thomas and his wife Mary Jane of Wilmington, Delaware; one sister, Mary Lou Berkey of Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Patricia and Steven Veasey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Veasey and a son, Michael Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Linda Williams will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 of Boonsboro.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the funeral home.
