James "Jim" Shupe, Sr.

James "Jim" D. Shupe, Sr., 81, of Boonsboro, Maryland and formerly of Fort Washington, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on January 26, 1931 in Beckley, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Roddi C. and Hazel P. (Flanagan) Shupe.  His wife, Margaret (Smith) Shupe preceded him in death on October 28, 1998.

Jim graduated from Mullens High School in Mullens, West Virginia

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.

Jim worked in construction all of his life.  After moving to Maryland, he worked for Weiss Construction Company, where he became the head superintendent of construction.  Jim retired from Weiss Construction Company in 1988, after nearly twenty years of service.

Jim is survived by a daughter, Janice (Shupe) Wilcox of Boonsboro; a son, James D. Shupe, Jr and his wife, Deborah of Boonsboro; four sisters, Wanda Wishard of Annapolis, Maryland, Dorothy Vitsos of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nancy Smith of Manning, South Carolina, and Ann Rivenbark of Burgaw, North Carolina.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Charles Smith of Frederick, Maryland, Steve Smith of Boonsboro, William Brooks, Jr. of Boonsboro, Maggie (Shupe) DeFreytas of Hagerstown, and Jonathan Wilcox of Alexandria, Virginia.  He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, William Brooks, III and Madie Brooks, both of Boonsboro.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert "Robbie" Smith.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Brother Clayton Clark will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the funeral home.
