Mr. James “Jack” Clarence Hardy, Jr.81 of Doubs, MD died on Sunday, September 4, 2011 in the same home in which he was born on December 21, 1929.
Born December 21, 1929 he was the son of the late James C. Hardy, Sr. and Anna M. Hardy (Bryant).
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Sandra P. Hardy and former wife Peggy C. Hardy.
Mr. Hardy was a former member of the Usher Board and a trustee of Mt. Zion AME Church.
James graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and served as a cook in the United States Army during the Korean War. He played minor league baseball in the Army and with the Frederick Dodgers, coached youth baseball and was a life-long Yankees fan.
Mr. Hardy worked for many years in the biological research labs at Fort Detrick and after its conversion to biodefense in 1971 for USAMRIID as a histologist. He was also a First Sergeant with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department serving at the old jail on West South Street. Concurrently he was employed at Maryland Medical Laboratories.
He was a member of Tuscarora Gun Club where he was an accomplished competitor and also loved to teach others to shoot. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at Seaside View.
He is survived by Anne Marie Hardy, Frederick, Brenda C. Hardy of Baltimore, James C. Hardy, III “Buster” of Frederick, Kelvin M. Anderson and wife Susan S. Anderson of Adamstown; Tonoa Y. Hardy, Paula K. Hardy of Frederick and Kenneth R. Hardy and Autumn Painter of Doubs.
“Granddaddy” had 16 cherished grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hardy was an only child but is survived by 3 cousins, Melvin Whalen, Joyce Neal and Joanne Thomas.
Mr. Hardy is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews including Michael Young and sister-in-law, Jackie Whiten. He will also be missed by special friends Ed Buckholtz and Hal Fix.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Monday, September 12, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 13 at 1:00PM with Rev. Sherman Mason officiating.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
