Mr. James H. (Jimmy) Whiten, 81 of Frederick, Maryland died at home with this family on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. He was the husband of the late Georgia M. Bowins Whiten for 43 years.
Born June 11, 1928 he was the eldest son of the belated James L.R. Whiten and Gussie M. Harris Whiten of Sunnyside, MD.
He was a member of Silver Hill United Methodist United Church, Mount Pleasant and in his later years he attended Asbury United Methodist Church, Frederick, Maryland
He retired from Eastalco in 1991 after 20 years. He was a loyal Washington Redskins fan, avid fisherman, hunter and a skillful card player. In his younger years he enjoyed boxing and playing softball.
He will be remembered as a caring, loving, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Whiten-Willis and Dolores Whiten, both of Frederick. Three sons; Rodney Whiten of Oakland California, Wayne L. Whiten and wife Jeanette of Woodbridge, VA and Jeffrey Whiten of Frederick, MD. One daughter-in-law; Wendy Weedon-Whiten of Walkersville, 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One brother; Larry Whiten and wife Phyllis of Walkersville; two sisters, Alferinia Dailey of Frederick and Jacqueline Tyler also of Frederick; two brother-in-laws; Donald Bowins and wife Judy of Frederick, David Bowins of Frederick; two sister-in-laws; Mary Roberts and husband Bernard of Frederick and Delores Harris and husband Bruce of Libertytown and one goddaughter Shelia Bowins.
Mr. Whiten will also be remembered by long time friend and second son Bernard Willis, family friends Dorothy Lewis Thompso and Ilva Richardson; Jackson of Germantown, MD and Charles Leekins of Frederick, neighbors, Bobbie Main, Dale and Lottie and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael T. Whiten of Frederick and James H. Whiten, Jr. of Oakland, CA and three sisters; Mary Dail, Joan Smith and Yvonne Hoy all of Frederick.
Services : Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, May 10 at 11:00AM. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, MD.
Visitation : The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, May 9 from 2-4 and 7-9PM.
