James "Doc" W. Long

James "Doc" W. Long, 78, of Knoxville, Maryland, died on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.


Born on September 14, 1931, in Middletown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Leslie H. and Nellie (Routzahn) Long.


Mr. Long was a veteran of the the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.


Doc was employed as a Milk Truck Driver for 40 years having worked for the Dairymen Company and the Maryland Coop.  For the past 5 years he was employed with the Superfresh in Brunswick, Maryland.


Mr. Long was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro and the Boonsboro Family Worship Center.


He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty J. (Paulsgrove) Long;  three daughters, Brenda Shirley of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Rebecca and her husband Robert Nelson of Falling Waters, West Virginia and Carolyn and her husband Rick Decker of Cumberland, Maryland; one son, Jeff McDonald and his wife Peggy of Stephenson, Virginia; three grandsons, Ricky Shirley, Jr. and his wife Becky, Jacob Nelson, and Jason McDonald and his wife Callie; four granddaughters, Brittany and her husband Chris, Allyson and Ashela Decker and Heather McDonald; one great-grandson Jay McDonald; one great-granddaughter Lexi; one brother, Leslie Long, Jr. and his wife Rosetta of Middletown, Maryland; and two sisters, Viola Bussard and her husband Francis of Frederick, Maryland and June Marsh of Middletown, Maryland.


Mr. Long was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Maurice, Austin, Huey and Lewis and his sisters, Betty Doub, Eleanor Blickenstaff, Iona Grossick and Marcelene Miller.


A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Boonsboro Family Worship Center, 7605 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Rev. Jack C. Payne, Jr. will officiate.  Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.


Friends may visit beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm.  There will also be viewing one hour prior to the service on Monday.


Memorial Donations may be made to the Boonsboro Family Worship Center.
