James David Abbott

James David Abbott, 62 of Walkersville, MD passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Cindy Abbott, his wife of 39 years.

Born September 27, 1947 in Washington, DC he was the son of the late Joan Abbott.

He graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC in 1965 and from Frostburg State College in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education. At Frostburg he played center, guard and tackle on the Bobcat football team.

He taught physical education from 1972 until his retirement in 2005.

He was the head football coach at Brunswick for two years and at Walkersville for ten years. Coach Abbott was also an assistant football and basketball coach and an indoor and outdoor track coach. His girls track team won the state title.

In addition to his loving wife Cindy, he is survived by his two sons, Christopher Abbott and wife Kathryn of Anacortes, Washington and Jason Abbott of Seattle, Washington, granddaughters, Natalie and Laurel, six brothers and sisters, Billy Abbott and wife Maryann, Joanie Berg and husband Jim, Mike Abbott and wife Sharon, Tony Abbott and wife Debie, Liz Prentice and Jeff Jarski, Ellen Thurman and husband Todd, mother-in-law, Dottie Butts, brother-in-law, Jim Rebel, sister-in-law Brenda Mullendore and husband Ted.

He will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by two sisters, Susan Rice and Christine Rebel.

Visitation: The family will receive friends a the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, April 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9PM.

Services: A Mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 11:00 AM at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, MD with Father Andy Aaron officiating.
