Mr. James Richard “Dick” Williams, 88 of Braddock Heights, MD died on Thursday, May 20 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Louise Francis Williams who died on November 1, 1981.
Born April 11, 1922 in Frederick, MD he was the son of the late Conrad H. and Alma V. Mercer Williams.
He served in the US Army Air Force Base Unit, North Africa Division, Air Transport Command during World War II.
In 1979 he retired from the Department of Interior, National Park Service, Harpers Ferry Center, WV.
He was a member of the AMVETS, VFW, American Legion and the Humane Society.
Mr. Williams was an avid hunter. He loved dogs and especially his beloved “Cotton”. He was also an active contributor to the prevention of animal abuse. Through his efforts his land is registered with the National Wildlife Federation.
He is survived by his son, Richard E. Williams and wife Stephanie of Frederick, a daughter, Sylvia A. Lucas and companion David R. Gabaldon of Middletown, two grandsons, David M. Blake and wife Ruby of California and Ricky B. Williams of Frederick, one granddaughter Rebecca L. Williams and fiancé Michael Guernieri of Boonsboro and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his companion Geraldine Young of Frederick and her family.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Middletown, Maryland with the Rev. Tim May officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contribution be made in his name to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
