Mr. James Maxwell Welsh, 80, of Frederick passed away Friday December 21, 2012. He was the loving husband of Teresa “Jane” Welsh his wife of 54 years.
He worked for the Maryland State Highway Administration as a highway engineer for over 30 years and retired as the Deputy Chief Engineer of Construction in 1991. In addition to his dedication as a husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed travel, canoeing, gardening and working on his Model A, antique car. He was raised in Cumberland, Maryland and graduated from Allegany High School. He attended Potomac State College following his service in the United States Air force.
In addition to his devoted wife he will be missed by his children Matthew Scott Welsh and Jamey Welsh Melcher as well as his grandchildren Jesse Maxwell Welsh, Samuel Anthony Melcher and Ella Jane Melcher. He is also survived by his brother Theodore Welsh of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Welsh Manor, and by his parents Floyd Maxwell Welsh and Phoebe Jane Welsh.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Tim May.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
