James Trout

May 3, 1924 — August 3, 2012

James Glenn Trout, age 88, died on Friday, August 3, 2012.  He was the beloved husband of June Trout, his wife of 63 years, and a loving father, grandfather and brother.

Born May 3, 1924, in Walkersville, he was the son of the late Glenn Trout and Mary Reba Haifleigh Trout.

In addition to his loving wife, June, he is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Jeffery Clem of Florida, and Martha and Kenneth Strawsburg of Walkersville, MD, grandson Matthew Strawsburg of Frederick, and sister, Libby Trout of Frederick.  He is also survived by many cousins.  He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1942.  He attended the Missouri School of Auctioneering in 1961.

Throughout his youth, Jim was active in 4-H, winning many awards for his swine and dairy cattle projects.  He was also a past State Officer of the Future Farmers of America.  In 1960 he was selected as the Outstanding Young Farmer by the Frederick Junior Chamber of Commerce.  He was active in the Maryland Brown Swiss Association for many years.  Although he discontinued dairying in 1968, he always maintained an avid interest in all things agricultural.

He “wore many hats”.  He was a farmer, real estate broker and appraiser, and auctioneer.  He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Frederick, the Frederick County Farm Bureau, President of the Auctioneers’ Association of Maryland in 1986 and 1987, was a Lifetime Member of the Auctioneers’ Association of Maryland and was inducted into the Auctioneers’ Association of Maryland Hall of Fame in 1995.  He was also a prominent member of the “Shamrock Lunch Group”.

Jim loved woodworking projects and made many lovely pieces of furniture.  He also loved model ship building, doing jig-saw puzzles, and collecting antique clocks.  Above all, he loved his farm.
