James Stup

James Monroe Stup, a lifelong dairy farmer, died on January 25, 2019 at Homewood at Crumland. Jim was born on January 1, 1929 at the Staley family home on Bloomfield Road. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends. He was the oldest child of Monroe W. and Margaret Staley Stup. He married Louise Huffer of Middletown on August 19, 1956, with whom he celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary in 2016.
Jim graduated from Frederick High School in 1947. He started farming on New Design Road and built the barn now used by KEY103.1. In 1965, Jim and Louise moved to Glade Road in Walkersville where they founded Teabow Farms. He was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville.
Jim was a member of 4-H and Ballenger Grange where he met Louise. He was a past President of Frederick Farm Bureau and was on the Board of Directors for Capital Milk Producers. Jim was selected as a Mid-Atlantic Master Farmer in 1999, and Frederick County Farm Family of the Year September 2014. He was a member of Lewistown Ruritan and Woodsboro Dance Club.
Jim and Louise traveled to every state in the US except Oregon and traveled internationally to locations such as Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and Columbia.
He is predeceased by his wife Louise in September 2016, a daughter, Melissa Ann Jarvis in April 2016, and a brother, Thomas in July 1972.
Jim is survived by his daughter Esther Myers and husband John H. Myers Jr. of Reisterstown, son James J. Stup and wife Terrie of Walkersville, and grandchildren Crystal Spradlin and husband Pat, Stephanie Keiser and husband Nick, Andrew Jarvis, Adam Stup and wife Jamie all of Walkersville. John H. Myers III and wife Allison of Texas, and Rebecca Myers of Reisterstown. He has nine great grandchildren, Ashley Spradlin, Natalie Keiser, Nicholas Spradlin, Ryan Keiser, Nathan Spradlin, Brayden Keiser, Hayleigh Jarvis, Rosie Stup and Noah Stup.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, February 1. Officiating will be Rev. Tim May. Serving as Pallbearers will be Jim’s six grandchildren.
Interment will follow in Glade Cemetery in Walkersville.
