James Showe

March 26, 1937 — January 30, 2018

James Robert Showe, 80, a loving father and rock of the family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband and companion of Helen Knott for the past 44 years.

He was born on March 26, 1937, in Frederick, son of the late Harvey Reno Showe and the late Hattie Mae Harris Showe.

James is survived by four children, Michael Showe and wife, Hope, of Frederick, Sandra Rust of Bedford, PA, Robert Showe and wife, Isabel, of St. Pete, Florida, and Karen Gray and husband, Robert, of Libertytown; five step-children, Edward Knott, Sharon Mehaffie, Joseph Knott, Teresa Quamina, and Jeffrey Knott; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. James had a special relationship with his grandson, Bradley Knott, with whom he resided. Grandson, Bradley Knott, and granddaughter, Heather Mayton, both have been by his side for the last couple months of his life helping with the day-to-day routine, for which everyone in the family was grateful.

James retired from the City of Frederick where he was Superintendent after 25 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing with his son, Michael, who was his best friend. He enjoyed going to gun raffles and wild game feeds. He was a member of the Patriotic Club and Eagles Club and loved to play cards. In his earlier years, he bowled in both duckpin and ten-pin leagues and played fastpitch softball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Harvey, Jr., Bud, Ethel, Kitty, Margie, and Betty.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Victory Christian Center, 7722 Edgewood Church Road, Frederick, officiated by Rev. H. Ric Van Dine. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
