James Post Rosenkrans IV

James Post Rosenkrans IV, 87, of Frederick, MD, died in Frederick on March 13, 2024.
James (Jim) was born in Newburgh, New York, on October 15, 1936, to the late Arlene and James Post Rosenkrans III. He attended school in Brazil for a few years as a child when he lived in São Paulo, Brazil. He also attended Newburgh Free Academy in New York before graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Florida State University, Johns Hopkins University. Jim earned a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry, as well as Master’s Degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. He was a member of Mensa. Jim worked for the CIA for 30 years, specializing in missile ballistics and telemetry. For part of his career, he and his family lived in Japan. He continued to expand his knowledge throughout the remainder of his life by reading and taking courses.

His daughter Jennifer Rosenkrans predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter Robyn (Rosenkrans) Carozza and her husband David, son James Post Rosenkrans V, granddaughter Crystal Churchill, great-grandsons Weston Churchill and Kenneth Kupstas, and a special friend, Lynn Romano. Jim also leaves behind two cats that were dear to him-Princess and Phoebe.

Everyone who knew Jim knew how much he loved woodworking, working with computers, playing the guitar, and memorizing long song lyrics by his favorite songwriters. He was a long-time member of the Reston-Herndon Folk Club in Virginia.
Jim will always be remembered for his love of family, intelligence, generosity, humor, and kindness.
A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Arrangements are being held by Stauffer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or the Reston-Herndon Folk Club would be appreciated.
