James Edwin Reid

James Edwin Reid, passed away on May 1, 2023 at his home in Frederick, MD. He was 88 years old.

Born on November 25, 1934 in Washington, D.C., he graduated from Eastern High School (Class of 1951) and Benjamin Franklin University. After completing high school, he served in the United States Navy.

His life was marked by dedication and devotion to his family. He was a loving husband to Maria "Rose" Reid for 68 years, he always said she was the best thing that ever happened to him. Together they raised five children - Rose Downes (Peter), James Reid Jr. (Kim), Laura Waalkes (Richard), Joseph Reid (Carol), and John Reid (Rose). He leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. James is preceded in death by his granddaughters Gabrielle Reid and Kathryn Reid.

James worked as an insurance executive at State Farm in Bloomington, IL, where he retired from in 1990. His sense of responsibility towards his community led him to serve as a Town Commissioner in Walkersville, MD from 1996 to 1999.

In retirement, James fulfilled his passion for writing by publishing a book called The Genuine Article that talked about his life experiences.

James loved God and his country above all else; and was proud of his service in the United States Navy. His hobbies included watching DC sports, music, crossword puzzles but most importantly spending time with those he loved.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation on May 4 from 10:00-11:00am at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Rd Walkersville, MD. A Mass will be held following the visitation commencing at 11:00am.

Burial will be private.
