James "Ralph" Osborn, Jr.

June 7, 1935 — August 8, 2024

James Ralph Osborn JR 89, of Frederick, MD, and formerly from Potomac, MD, peacefully passed away on August 8, 2024. 

Born June 7, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a devoted husband of 67 years to Jo Ann Osborn and a loving father to Allison Freibaum, Ellen Nemeroff (Ed), James Ralph Osborn III (Jennifer), and Frank Osborn (Suzanne). 

Ralph Attended Auburn University class of 1956 and graduated with a degree in business. While attending Auburn, he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Upon graduation, he attended Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. While serving with the U.S. Navy, he was stationed in Norfolk Virginia and attained the rank of Lieutenant. Upon completion of his service, he moved with Jo Ann to Bethesda, Maryland to raise his family and work for the Marriott Corporation. Later he moved to Potomac, Maryland.

Ralph was very entrepreneurial and owned and operated several businesses. Ralph owned the Germantown Inn, Germantown, Maryland. He purchased Glen Echo Seafood in the mid-eighties in Glen Echo, Maryland. In 1993 he opened The Market on the Boulevard in Cabin John, Maryland. In 2003 he sold the Market and retired to spend more time with his expanding family. 

Ralph was predeceased by his son, James Ralph Osborn, III and is survived by his wife Jo Ann, children, Allison, Ellen (Ed), and Frank (Suzanne) and seven grandchildren: Kristen (Grant), Brian (Mary), Michael (Giuliana), Matt, JR IV, Kyle and Charlotte as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

We find comfort in knowing that Ralph’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
