James A. Porter, Jr, 84, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Maryland.
Born on January 21, 1930, in Brunswick, Maryland, he was the son of the late James A. Porter, Sr. and Mary Margaret (Lewis) Porter. His wife of 59 years, Janice D. (Grubb) Porter, preceded him in death.
James was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served aboard the U.S.S. Midway.
He worked as an inspector for Mack Truck, retiring in 1985 after 26 years. He also worked for Triangle Motors in Frederick and was a driver for Hagerstown Honda.
James was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136, Loyal order of the Moose Lodge 1582, and the Steedman-Keenan American Legion Post 96; all in Brunswick. He was also a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Rohrersville, Maryland.
The family sends special thanks to all of his family and friends for their love, prayers, and support throughout the years, especially to Brother Wendell McClellan, Brother Clayton Clark, Rosalie, Bo and Sharon and his friends at Cactus Flats where he loved to listen to Blue Grass Music and enjoy great food.
James is survived by two daughters, Teresa L. Ensor of Brownfield, Maine, and Constance E. Butts and husband Ricky of Knoxville, Maryland; and six grandchildren, James, Tara, Andrew, Emily, Chelsey and Cory. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, James Michael Porter; and daughter, Pamela J. Perkins.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 3346 Gapland Road in Rohrersville. Brother Clayton A. Clark will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will be held privately by the family.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
