James Howard Line

James Howard Line, age 72, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Doey’s House. Despite his courageous efforts to recover from a work-related injury, sustained in March, he peacefully surrendered to his condition, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on September 6, 1952, in Hagerstown, James was the son of the late George and Anna Line. 

After graduating from South Hagerstown High School, he devoted his life to hard work and service. James was a loving partner, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many, both human and animal.

James was a country boy and farmer at heart. From the time he could walk, he was in the field helping his parents until the day he no longer could. He was always adding animals and crops to the farm in his backyard and enjoyed taking care of and watching them. James loved to go fishing, camping, and antiquing. He was a collector of many things, but some of his favorites were horses, salt and pepper shakers, and holiday decorations. He was known for his impressive holiday displays, his infectious smile, his hard work, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

He is survived by his partner, Diana; daughter, Karla; son, Jeremy; stepson, Zachary; granddaughter, Halli; grandsons, Damien and Anthony; step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, George and Anna, he was preceded in death by his brother, George (Sonny); and sister, Rose Marie. 

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the funeral home, with Rev. Richard G. Hembrock officiating. Burial will be held at Boonsboro Cemetery.
