James Jarvis

March 5, 1936 — February 21, 2018

Mr. James J. Jarvis, 81 of Gettysburg, PA passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2018 at the Holy Cross Hospital. He was the beloved husband of S. Kay Jarvis for 59 years.

Born March 5, 1936 in Adena, OH he was the son of the late Joseph and Pauline (Parrish) Jarvis.

He graduated from Adena High School in 1955 where he excelled in athletics and met Kay, his high school sweetheart and future wife. He went into carpentry and went on to open Jarvis Construction, which he ran until his retirement in 2002.  He was highly skilled, took pride in his work and was respected throughout the community. He was a dedicated husband and proud family man. He loved hunting, fishing and playing golf but most importantly he loved spending time with his family and was truly adored by his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his two children, J.R. Jarvis and wife Alice of Swanton, MD and Chris Jarvis and wife Kelly of Annapolis, MD; four grandchildren, Christopher and wife Kandice, Ryan, Michaela and Conor Jarvis; one great grandchild, Colton Jarvis; one sister, Mary Lou Anderson and his sister-in-law, Shirley Jarvis.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond, Daniel and Joseph Jarvis and sister, Kay Bello.

Visitation will be at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 3rd at the Pathways Baptist Church, 200 W. Diamond Ave., Gaithersburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pathways Baptist Church and/or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
