James Hotchkiss

May 17, 1945 — February 22, 2014

James Edwin "Buddy" Hotchkiss, 68, of Walkersville, MD, passed in his sleep. He was the husband of the late Frances Irene Bennett-Hotchkiss, who predeceased him in 1981.

Born May 17, 1945 in Seat Pleasant, MD, he was the son of late Emma Mildred Knight and James Peel Hotchkiss.

James was formerly employed by the United States Government for 38 years and served in the United States Army Reserve.
He enjoyed sports, namely football (fan of the Washington Redskins), basketball, and baseball.  He also loved his scotch (Glenlivet), political conversations, traveling, practical jokes and fantasy football.

Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie Michelle Hotchkiss and Melanie Rose Hotchkiss of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Agnes Eileen Durnbaugh and husband, John, of Panama City Beach, FL, and Emily Snyder of Florida; a brother-in-law, Jim Schrader and wife, Kathie, of Walkersville; his former wife, Diana Alicia Chacon Lavallee, and husband, Gerald, of Lorraine, Quebec, Canada; and a cousin, Lawrence Owenby of North Carolina.

Also surviving are eight nieces and nephews, James Edwin "Rookie" Hotchkiss and wife, Sharon, of Union Bridge, MD; Regina Marie Weske and husband, John, of Dayton, OH; Theresa Anne Heisler of Lexington Park, MD; Christopher Andrew Schrader and wife, Beth, of California; Vincent Edward Schrader and wife, Katie, of Thurmont, MD, Denise Michelle Miller and husband, Scott, of Colorado Springs, CO; John William Durnbaugh Jr. of Panama City Beach, FL; Daniel James Durnbaugh and wife, Elesa,  of Panama City Beach, FL; along with numerous great-nieces and nephews which include Todd James Lee Hotchkiss of Union Bridge among others.

He was predeceased by one sister, Rose Marie Schrader, in 1990.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave, Walkersville.
