James A. Helsel, 83, of Mount Airy, passed from this life on Monday, August 27, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of Rosemary Helsel his wife of 56 years.
Born on February 28, 1935, in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer Roy and Margaret Steele Helsel.
Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated a hardwood flooring company for many years.
Mr. Helsel was Past Commander and Chaplain of the Mt. Airy American Legion, Post 191 as well as a member of the Mt. Airy VFW.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children: James B. Helsel of New Zealand and Deborah G. Brandenburg and husband Mark of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren: Ryan M. Brandenburg, Michelle E. Brandenburg and Amanda M. Tomasello and husband Andrew. He was preceded in death by siblings: Audrey Decker, Elvin Helsel, Nancy Goergen and Jack Helsel.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Friday, August 31, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd. in Mt. Airy, MD where service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tim May officiating.
Interment will follow at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kemptown.
