James Warren Hance, 70, lovingly referred to as, “Jim”, “Pop”, and “Pop Pop” of Walkersville, MD, was called home by God on February 10, 2017. He was the loving husband of Jill Hance.
Jim was born April 14, 1946 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Donald B. Hance and Lois L. (McDonald) Hance.
He graduated in 1964 from Ewing High School in Trenton, New Jersey. He attended Pfeifer College, currently Pfeifer University in North Carolina and earned both his BA and MA degrees from Trenton State College, currently the College of New Jersey. He taught middle school science for 32 years before retiring to Maryland.
Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, while being stationed in Germany. He took great pride in being selected as Soldier of the Month and also in his brick, in honor of his service, on the Veteran’s Wall of Honor, Memorial Park, Walkersville, Maryland.
In addition to his beloved wife Jill, Jim is survived by David James and Jacqueline Hance of Ewing, N.J., Scott and Eva Patterson of Frederick, MD., Lisa and Joey Woody of Summerville, S.C., and Todd and Alisha “Lish” Patterson of Langley, B.C., Canada.
He was affectionately called “Pop Pop” by the lights of his life and pride and joy, his grandchildren, Miko Davidson Hance, Dylan Berry, Tanner Woody, Cooper Woody, Luke Berry, Jaxen Patterson, Wyatt Patterson, Hanna Patterson and baby Patterson, due in the fall. He is also survived by his sister Jill Bakke of Colorado and her family.
He was predeceased by his brother, Don and his sister, Debbie.
Jim was a Life Member of the American Legion, Post 191, Mt. Airy, MD., The Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 371, Frederick, MD., a Life Member of the N.R.A., a Founding Sponsor of Flight 93 National Memorial, a supporting member of the Wounded Warrior Project and a member of The Second Amendment Foundation.
He was an avid sports fan and loyal supporter of the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Orioles, Frederick Keys, University of Maryland football and basketball and Clemson football. In addition, he regularly followed the Walkersville High School sports teams.
At Jim’s request all services will be private and at the convenience of the family. He has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Frederick County or the Wounded Warrior Project.
