James John Franklin Getridge, age 81, of Boonsboro, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born March 12, 1927 in Hagerstown, but raised in Trego, MD, Jim was a son of the late Marion Arthur "Ott" and Clara Mae Callin Getridge.
After working at Fairchild Aircraft for a few months, he joined the U.S. Navy in February of 1945. After serving in Okinawa, Japan, Jim was honorably discharged and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
After returning home from his service in the Navy, he worked for Chestnut Farms Dairy and Sealtest Dairy in Frederick and retired from Shenandoah's Pride Dairy in Springfield, VA.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Lorraine Kefauver Getridge; one daughter, Cheryl Pryor and husband Gary of Middletown, MD; one son, James Franklin Getridge of Boonsboro; three sisters, Doris Gatrell, Pearl Marshall and husband Richard, and Jeanette "Peachie" Knight and husband Lonzo, all of Sharpsburg; and two brothers, Garnet Getridge and wife Ollie of Brunson, SC, and Gary Getridge and wife Linda of Boonsboro. He is also survived by one sister-in-law Shirley Getridge of Clear Spring, MD; one half-sister Lena Willoughby and husband William of LaVerne, Calif; two granddaughters, Erin Gollogly and husband Jonathan and Stephanie Harvey, all of Boonsboro; five great-grandchildren, Stacia Gollogly, Phoenix Harvey, Noah Gollogly, Sean Gollogly and Jonah Harvey, all of Boonsboro; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Meta Getridge, Virginia Getridge, and Lillian Lapole and husband William; one brother, George Getridge; one brother-in-law Floyd Gatrell; and two half-brothers, Marion "Pete" Getridge Jr. and Harold Getridge.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
