James Gates

Mr. James A. "Jimmy" Gates, 21, of Mt. Airy passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016.

Born on November 7, 1994, in Frederick, he was the son of Anthony and Janice Gates of Damascus and Betsy and Barry Donahue of Mt. Airy. He was a 2012 graduate of Linganore High School. Jimmy was a member of Union Bridge Church of the Brethren. He was a an apprentice carpenter in the construction industry. Jimmy enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, fishing and cutting firewood; as well as working on automobiles and "Scrapping". He also loved his dirt bike and hanging out with his friends.

Surviving in addition to his parents are siblings: Jessica Gates and Michael Donahue both of Mt. Airy; grandparents James and Frances Wimmer of Mt. Airy and Nelson and Irene Gates of Middletown; aunts and uncles: John and Diane Davis of Union Bridge, Mark and Hope Gates of Virginia, Mike and Karen Rourke of Middletown and Toby and Kim Stoops of Pennsylvania; step sisters: Katie Taylor and Amy Bush, both from Damascus as well as many cousins, great aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Monday, October 24, at Prospect United Methodist Church, 5923 Woodville Rd, Mt. Airy where services will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev, James Benedict of the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, 124 South Main Street, Union Bridge, Maryland 21791 or Libra Institute for Brain Development, 855 North Wolfe St., Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21205.
