James Flizanes

Mr. James "Jim" G. Flizanes, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Catherine (Nicoludis) Flizanes.  Born on January 29, 1929 in McKeesport, PA, he was the son of the late Gus and Livira (Markakis) Flizanes.

Mr. Flizanes was a draftsman, with a career spanning nearly 35 years, including time spent at Bechtel, Inc. and SK&A.  After his retirement, he worked in the dairy department at the Weis in Mount Airy for almost 16 years.  Jim was Honorably Discharged from the Army, serving during the Korean War.  He was passionate about gardening and loved playing pinochle and Yahtzee with friends at the Mount Airy Senior Center.

Jim is survived by Daughters: Anna Gue and Connie Zaruba & her husband William; 4 Grandsons: James Gue, III & wife Jamie, Lucas Gue & wife Donna, Michael Zaruba and Nicodemus Zaruba; 4 Great Granddaughters:
Katelyn Gue; Raelyn Gue; Rachel Gue; Reanna Gue and a sister Freda Karos as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Mr. Flizanes was preceded in death by siblings: Ernest, Helen, Frances, Tony, Della, Bessie and John.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 9 at 10:00 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 West Seventh Street, Frederick.  A private burial will take place on Tuesday, January 10 at The McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery, McKeesport, PA.
