James Timothy Cooley, 73, of Middletown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Loni Cooley, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage spanning 34 years.

Born on July 25, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, James was the beloved son of the late John Douglas Cooley and Grace Evelyn (Rupert) Cooley. James proudly served his country as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a manager in the technical field, earning respect for his dedication and leadership.

James was deeply committed to the West Central Intergroup of Maryland, where he formed lifelong friendships and served as a source of strength and support for many. Outside of his professional and community endeavors, James reveled in the beauty of life’s simple joys. He cherished the quiet moments spent fishing with his granddaughters, where their laughter and shared stories filled the air. His garden was a testament to his nurturing spirit, blooming with vibrant colors and fresh produce. With skilled hands, he transformed raw materials into intricate creations through woodworking, each piece imbued with care and craftsmanship. James’s adventurous side shone as he rode his motorcycle, embracing the open road with a sense of freedom. Movie nights with loved ones were a treasured tradition, offering warmth and connection through shared stories on the screen. And his baking talents brought smiles to friends and family, as he delighted in creating delectable treats that reflected his love and generosity.

Above all, James was a family man who poured his heart into his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Loni; his daughter, Katelyne Rusenko, and her husband, Steven; his son, Robert (Drew) Cooley; his adored grandchildren, Bristol, Kori, and Kyler Rusenko, and Greyson Miller. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Ronald Cooley and his sister, Sharon Starry. He is also survived his nephew, Phillip Dustin Hall; his mother-in-law, Patricia George; his brother-in-law, Randy McGeehan, and his wife, Donna; his sister-in-law, Gina McGeehan; and his cousins, Sandy Pinder and Andy (Andrea) Fulton Rhodes.

James was a man of integrity, humor, and kindness who left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His love, wisdom, and generous spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A celebration of James's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cancer Institute or St. Judes Children’s Center, reflecting James’s commitment to helping others.
