Mr. James H. Cochran, 63, of Thurmont, MD, passed on to eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at George Washington Univ. Hosp. in Georgetown, D.C.
He was born June 3, 1948 in New Castle, PA, lived in Tampa, FL 15 yrs, and in Frederick County and Thurmont, MD since 1979.
Jim was in the US Navy from 1968 to 1971 and served on the U.S.S. Kennedy in Attack Squadron Thirty-Four., then with the US Navy Reserves from 1977 to 1979.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1972 to 1979 in Tampa, FL and in Maryland.
Jim and his wife, Debra, started Magic Mountain Chimney Sweeps in 1979, and it continues today. Jim loved being a Chimney Sweep. He treated his clients more like friends and cared about them and their safety very much.
Jim is survived by his wife, Debra Howell Cochran, married October 6, 1973, in Tampa, FL. He is also survived by one son, Wesly M. H. Cochran, of Frederick, MD and one daughter, Wendy V. Cochran Taylor of Thurmont. They will miss him dearly as he was a loving, generous, devoted husband and father.
Jim and Debby loved adventure and traveled all over Europe and the United States.
Jim never missed an event or an opportunity to help with anything his son, daughter, and wife were involved in. Jim enjoyed gardening with his wife and took great pride in keeping up their historic home, “Aurora Cottage” in Thurmont, MD for the past 27 yrs. Jim also loved restoring his 1968 Triumph TR250.
Jim is also survived by his father, Keller Cochran of Tampa, two sisters, Pat Brown of Tampa, and Barbara Athens & husband Billy of New Jersey; one brother, Mike Cochran & wife, Nancy of Tampa; his sister-in-law Pat Alexander & husband, Henry of Thurmont; his brother-in-law, Joe Howell & wife, Maria of Tampa, as well as his eight nieces and nephews. Jim was survived by his mother-in-law, Ethel Howell, who passed April 7, 2012.
Mr. Cochran was predeceased by his mother, Joan Hyde Cochran and his father-in-law, Joe Howell, Sr., both of Tampa, FL.
The family will have visitation Friday, 4/13 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. Services will be Saturday, 4/14 at 11:00 am at MorningStar Family Church, 14698 Albert Staub Road, Thurmont with Rev. Rich Broome officiating. Chimney Sweeps in traditional attire will be the pallbearers. Sweeps in attendance are invited to wear their top hats/tails. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery.
