James Bowers

James Lee "Bill" Bowers, 92, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born on May 30, 1926, in Yarrowsburg, he was the son of the late Eleanor E. (Nokes) and John A. Bowers, Sr.

Bill attended the Boonsboro High School. He retired from CSX as a Railroad Conductor with 35 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. in the 83rd Infantry Division, 3rd Army under G.S. Patton in WWII. He received the European Theater Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, Ardenres Forest (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe. He was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and the Germany Occupation Ribbon.

Bill was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church and a former member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren. He was a lifetime member of VFW and American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro. He was also a member of Boonsboro Red Men Tribe 155 and the AARP. He was a graduate of the National Radio and TV Institute of Washington, D.C.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Mumaw and husband, Ed, of Hampstead, NC and Deborah U. Beaver and husband, Sam, of Boonsboro; close friend, Jessie E. Ottinger; one brother, Arthur E. Bowers of Keedysville; one sister, Marlene R. Kelly of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Yvette Taft, Robin Wilson, Charles (Chuck) Mumaw, Jamie Mumaw, Brandy L. Daugherty Pool and Brett Daugherty; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Lois A. Howser, Wanda G. Rohr, John A. "Ching" Bowers, Jr. and Robert M. "Dope" Bowers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. Rev. Robert Ruggieri will officiate.  Burial will be held at the Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Brownsville.
