Mr. James Randolph "Jim" Beachley, 62, of Thurmont, died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Kline Hospice House.
Born June 24, 1950 in Laurel, he was the son of the late Charles Dewey and Eleanor G. Purdy Beachley.
Jim was an accomplished craftsman, master carver and cabinet maker and was named one of the country's top 200 craftsmen by Early American Homes magazine. He was featured several times in the Frederick News Post for his work in restoring and reproducing 17th and 18th century furniture. He started Beachley Cabinet Makers in Frederick in the early 1970's. He later moved the business to Woodsboro before settling in Creagerstown. Jim was still working at his trade until his illness made it too difficult for him to continue.
He was an avid Civil War collector and he loved gardening and his cats. At one time, he played the banjo for a local blue grass band, Cherry Lane Express. Jim was a member of Graceham Moravian Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Laine Beachley and Britt Beachley, both of York, PA; his sister, Patricia A. Shank and husband, Jesse, of Frederick; a half-sister, Doris Shaffer and her husband, George, of Bedford County, Pennsylvania; his half-brother, Richard Simons of Hagerstown; and many nieces and nephews, including his nephew, James "Jamie" Shank.
He also will be remembered by his companion, Jodi Goldberg; his daughter Britt's fiancée', James Rountrey; and his sister-in-law and longtime friend, Marie Shank of Frederick.
Jim was preceded in death by four half brothers, Albert, Charles, Paul and Emmett Beachley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from the FSK Chapel at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street, Frederick.
Interment will follow at the cemetery.
