Jacqueline Rihard

July 21, 1932 — January 29, 2013

Jacqueline Rosina (Drake) Rihard, 80, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed suddenly at her home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

Born on July 21, 1932, in Keedysville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Louis and Atha G. (Norris) Drake.  Her husband, MSgt Carl W. Rihard, USAF, Ret., preceded her in death on July 4, 2007.

During her life, Jacqueline lived abroad and many places in the United States with her military husband and four children, before settling in Sharpsburg.  Of her children, one was born in San Antonio, Texas, one in Bremerhaven, Germany, another in Hagerstown and the last at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.  Her dream was to return to Germany for a visit.

She was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #378 in Hagerstown, The Ladies of the Elks and Associates at Lodge 378, and St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Keedysville.

Jacqueline enjoyed working in her yard and garden throughout the years and was still mowing her own grass on her riding lawn mower.  She was an extremely good cook and made most of her meals from scratch including bread and rolls.

Reading was her favorite past time to the point that she would read a book every two days.  She enjoyed sharing her books with her children.  It was not unusual for her to bring a bag of books to share when she came to visit family.  She also loved crossword puzzles and was a wicked scrabble player.  Her happiest times were when the extended family got together for the holidays.  She will be sorely missed by her family.

She is survived by her companion, Irwin Hoffman; her four children, Nina Garrett and husband G. Gerald Morrow, of Smithsburg, Maryland, Carl Rihard and wife Nancy of Hampstead, Maryland, Lisa Rihard and her companion Mike Crist of Boonsboro, and Kerry Miller and husband Rodney of Keedysville.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren, all of whom she was extremely proud.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George Drake and William L. Drake.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery on Shepherdstown Pike in Keedysville.  Rev. Eric R. Moser will officiate.  A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge, 11063 Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sharpsburg Fire and Rescue Service,  110 West Chapline Street, Sharpsburg, Maryland, 21782.
