J. Edward Penn

J. Edward Penn, age 85, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, April 12, at his home.
 
Born February 13, 1938, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Jack and Anna Penn. Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Suzanne Guiney Penn. 
 
He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School class of ’56 and Hagerstown Junior College. After serving two years in the Army he went to work for Auburn University as a TV director and producer for their educational program. From there he went to Weirton, West Virginia and served as the supervisor of audiovisual aids for Hancock County. After working in Weirton, he worked at the University of Delaware, establishing their educational closed circuit system. Following his time in Delaware, Edward concluded his career working at the Alternate National Military Command Center, “Site R”, retiring after 28 years in the chief of operations division. During retirement, he spent 17 years as a starter/ranger at Whitetail Golf Resort.
 
He is survived by three children, Edward B. (Nina) Penn, Missy (Richard) Crilley, and Christopher Penn, all of Beaver Creek; five grandchildren Alex (Joey) Penn Rice, Morgan Crilley, Emily Penn, Chandler (Hannah) Penn, and Brock Penn; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 15th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown with Celebrant Rev. Ernest Cibelli officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD.
