Italo (Marty) Martin, 84, of Gaithersburg passed in his sleep September 17, 2017. He was born in Prato Carnico, a small town in the mountains of northern Italy, close to Austria. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1947, served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and obtained his U.S. Citizenship in 1957. He was a skilled brick layer and mason for many years, and ended his career as a foreman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he had worked for over 20 years. He is predeceased by his wife Barbara Martin, sister Pia and brother Dario. Survived by his son, Italo A. Martin of Silver Spring; step daughter Debra Sharpe of Virginia Beach and her husband Marvin and children Rebecca and Coleman; step daughter Joanne Doyle of Mt. Airy and her husband Richard and children Bryan, Kerri, Kevin, and Erin. He also leaves behind his nephew Enzo Martin and family in Italy and dear family and friends Ray Kasey of Virginia, Tina Martel of Florida, and Olimpia Ramoni of New York. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 24 from 6PM until 8PM at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mt. Airy, Maryland. Interment will be at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland at 1PM on Monday, September 25.
